Let’s talk about what vaping actually is and why you should STOP VAPING. Let’s pretend that you didn’t already know.
WHY SHOULD I QUIT VAPING?
It can be pretty confusing, but the basic facts are: A vape (or vaporizer) is any device that heats and turns to a vapor, a solution meant to be inhaled. Therefore any e-cigarette is a type of vape and it uses a nicotine-based solution.
The vape solutions are where the problems arise. The solutions contain particles that are known to cause heart and lung diseases as well as cancer. Formaldehyde is only one of the chemicals that has been proven to cause cancer.
Besides having the potential to cause cancer, vape solutions also often contain nicotine! Nicotine releases dopamine in the brain and the brain translates this a reward. This leads to the strong desire to continue to vape. It’s listed as addictive but is actually creating a strong habit just like cigarettes.
Basically, e-cigarettes are advertised as a healthy alternative to cigarettes. But the FDA has issued warnings to some makers for violating federal regulations specifically because they are advertising their vaping products as healthier options than cigarettes.
This is what Popcorn Lung looks like. It can be a result of Vaping. It is irreversible!
Years ago, e-cigarettes were advertised and used as a device that could help you quit smoking. But those benefits, if they were benefits, were meant for people who were trying to quit smoking cigarettes, which kill 480,000 people a year, according to the CDC. So, while vaping might have been viewed to be less harmful, they were still putting nicotine into the body and many people were still smoking cigarettes while using the e-cigarettes. This was actually adding more danger and it was not an effective way to quit smoking,
Vaping is still a new habit, so not enough is known about its long-term effects as is known about cigarettes, but, looking at short-term effects of vaping the risk is very real. Vaping has been linked to popcorn lungs and pneumonia. Vaping can also damage the heart and cause seizures. The medical community is finding that Vaping can be even more dangerous, even faster than smoking cigarettes. So, it is their suggestion and ours that you should stop vaping!
So, as you can see, vaping is as habit forming as cigarettes and is just as deadly, or even more so. If you really want to be free of it, talk to us about our program to help you eliminate vaping or smoking from your life.
What are states doing about it?
Officials in all 50 states have released public warnings recently urging residents to exercise extreme caution when using vaporized products, or it’s important to avoid their use altogether. California is one of 7 states that has implemented bans or partial bans on either vaping or vaping products.
In California, San Francisco is prohibiting the sales of all e-cigarettes within the city limits. In Los Angeles, the County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to ban all flavored tobacco products, which includes vape pens and e-cigarettes.
On Sept. 16 2019, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order allocating some $23 million for an advertising campaign against the Vaping industry, underage sales and counterfeit products. The LA County Board of Supervisors is moving toward its own ban on flavored vape products.
